Danefae Baby & Kids Clothes Australia: Scandi Style Brand Spotlight

Danefae girls top

If you have spent any time in Scandi parenting groups or following Danish kids' fashion online, you have probably seen the Danefae name pop up, usually attached to a photo of a kid in a graphic tee with a slightly wild, illustrated print. Danefae is a Danish heritage brand that has built a cult following for exactly that look, and Baby Goes Retro is proud to stock it here in Australia, which means you do not have to work out international shipping from Denmark or the UK just to get your hands on it.

What makes Danefae different

Danefae's signature is what fans often call the "Viking tee" style: bold, illustrated graphics on a solid colour base, with names like Erik and Freja running through the product names as a nod to the brand's Danish roots. It is not minimalist Scandi design in the pale-neutral sense people sometimes expect from Scandinavian brands. It is closer to the loud, characterful end of the spectrum, which fits well alongside the rest of the colourful, non-beige range Baby Goes Retro is known for. As an Australian organic baby and toddler clothing store, ships Australia-wide from Victoria, we picked up Danefae specifically because it does not look like anything else already in our range.

Sizing notes for Danefae

Danefae uses European age-based sizing, and like most of the Scandinavian brands we stock, it tends to run true to size or very slightly generous rather than small, which is the opposite of what a lot of Australian parents expect after shopping mainstream kids' fashion. If your child is between sizes, we would usually suggest sizing up, particularly for the long sleeve tees where a slightly looser fit still looks right. You can browse the full range, including pieces not covered in this post, on our Danefae collection page.

Frequently asked questions

Does Baby Goes Retro sell Danefae in Australia?
Yes, Baby Goes Retro is an Australian stockist of Danefae, so you can order the brand with domestic shipping instead of importing from Denmark or the UK.

Is Danefae organic cotton?
Some Danefae lines are, including the Danechives range which carries an organic cotton tag. Not every Danefae print uses certified organic cotton, so it is worth checking the individual product tags, which we do note in each listing.

What age range does Danefae cover at Baby Goes Retro?
The current range spans roughly 1-2y through to 9-10y depending on the style, with long sleeve tees generally running the widest size range and dresses covering the younger end.

Does Danefae run small or large?
Danefae tends to run true to size or slightly generous compared with mainstream Australian kids' labels, so sizing up is usually the safer call if your child is between sizes.

Why we stock it

Danefae is one of the brands we get asked about by name, usually from parents who have seen it on a Scandi parenting account and want to know if they can buy it locally. Being able to say yes, and to ship it Australia-wide from our base in Geelong with free shipping over $97 AUD, is exactly the kind of thing that makes stocking a smaller, more distinctive brand worthwhile.
